The stylists garden:

We rave about this climbing rose a lot and here it appears on the blog yet again. Pierre de Ronsard is one of the most beautiful cupped shaped roses with a mix of cream and pink petals. We took a sneak peak into the courtyard of stylist Monica Wills. A vintage gate panel has been re purposed into a wall art/ trellis and the climbing rose graces it perfectly.

The blue room

Serenity Nursery Home and Garden wares

Serenity Nursery gorgeous patio settings

Serenity Nursery new "blue room"- No more red walls!!!

One thing we try to always do is surprise and delight our customers. We had a purple and grey painted room which was painted red about three years ago. Everyone loved "the red room" and we mostly decorated it with Asian style pieces. Well this week we thought out with the old and in with the new. We pained the walls of the red room a pretty pale blue and we love it. It's fresh, summery and bright. Pop in and have a look how we decorated it...our theme was "no theme" and we have mixed french style chairs with modern metal home wares and our very popular multicoloured side board tables.
Enjoy.

Freshly Picked:

Autumn is the perfect time to plant lemon trees or any citrus for that matter.
Grow cumquat's in pots for a Mediterranean feel or a lime tree along a fence for an edible screen.

It's no secret that I love dogs and while hunting the web I was delighted to stumble
 across these words of advise.

Yellow roses, sunflowers and a lemon as a place card makes a pretty table setting. Use any type of fruit that is in season, your guest can take it home as a healthy snack!

A yellow feature wall is a dramatic backdrop to this climbing wisteria plant. Use paint in the garden to quickly and cheaply transform a space. Paint the side of an old shed, a fence or an old chair to introduce a new colour to a dull spot.

Plant tulips now and all Spring flowering bulbs. Love the yellow industrial stools? We have them in baby blue and cream @ Serenity Nursery now.

Strolling through the garden...

How lovely it is to see our customers take pride in their gardens. Our customer Helen Rodda  has built her magnificent garden up with large Shade trees, lovely flowering perennials and box hedging.
Helen's garden is called " Camelot Garden Stroll"and is situated at Kadina on South Australia's York Peninsula. Helen's Garden was open to the public in October and attracted over 300 people and helped raise funds for the local cancer council. Well done Helen, what a beautiful garden.

Take a look at the wonderful photos Helen sent into us...

Teak Garden Sculpture Balls from Serenity Nursery where strategically placed in a section of the garden.

Helen said "Everyone fell in love with them".  Comments like “Who made them”,  “Where did you get them from”,  “ I’ve got to have some of them”, to ‘I’ve never seen anything like them before” kept coming all the time.

Serenity Nursery's statue of Rose is enveloped by blooming roses and a metal garden arch.

Small wooden hearts from Serenity Nursery hang from the weeping mulberry tree.

Helen put together this nostalgic little nook. An old washer, washboard and basket
 complete the quirky display.

Out of the Square

What a quirky idea for a garden gate. It is sometimes these hand-made off beat elements that can make a garden and give it a sense of personality. An"out of the square" detail can break up common garden elements such as lawn, retainer walls and hedging and give your garden life!

It's in the Stars..

                                   1. Daphne Odora, Fragrant star shaped flowers.

Tulbaghia (Society Garlic)- Grass-like foliage with purple or pink star-shaped flowers.

Chinese Star Jasmin (trachelospermum jasminoides). Climbing plant with fragrant white star flowers.

On this beautiful Spring Day here in Murray Bridge I thought I would share with you my favourite Spring flowering star shaped flowers.

Daphne Odora is one of the most fragrant flowers around and will fragrance the air profusely. It features clusters of star-shaped flowers in white/pink.  Daphne  odora will grow well in a pot or in the garden. Choose a spot out of the afternoon sun and plant in a well draining soil. Daphne odora will  grow to approx 1 m tall and it is ideal planted near an entertaining area to appreciate its delightful perfume.

Tulbaghia (Society Garlic)- This low growing plant has many uses in the garden. It looks fantastic as a garden border plant and can look equally as good in a pot. Society garlic will flower in the shade making it the perfect companion plant for daphne odora. It will also grow well in a sunny position.

Chinese Star Jasmin (trachelospermum jasminoides). One of the prettiest climbers around. This climber will grow over archways or cover a fence. It's great if you want to soften the look of hard architectural lines in your garden. The star-shaped flowers  are a pretty take on the common jasmin climber.

All available in the nursery now.

I wander what the next themed display will be?

Our little feed shed.

One of the things that makes are garden centre unique is our old stone feed shed.
It was built in the early 1900's and once
housed the grains and hay for the horses and pigs
that once live on the property.
Today we use the feed shed to display our garden gifts and plants.
Top: our Courtney's Tub is planted with an ivy hoop and trailing geraniums.
A second hand chair that we have planted with succulents sits by the doorway.
Middle: French style cushions and wall art adorn our little feed shed.
Bottom: It's a great time to plant lavender.
There are lots of autumn/ winter  flowering varieties in store now.

Old school is cool

A veggie patch on wheels. This image is just adorable.

I love this. I don't know why but I have always loved old teacups, and the idea of incorporating them into a garden appeals to me.

Show off your old doily collection by making them into a table runner. It looks great on a rustic timber table.

Gypsophila commonly known as Baby's Breath was used extensively throughout the 80's and 90's in bridal floral decoration. The dainty white flowers fell out of fashion, but now it's back. In fact we have it growing in pots for sale right now. It will grow in the garden and creates a lovely soft border.

Sunflowers, gerberas, lavender and daisies are old school plants that are becoming more popular in the modern garden. An old bath tub planted  up in all your favourite flowering plants could be a cool way to garden.

This weekend C.I.Y Projects

C.I. Y ( Create it Yourself) Project 1-
Find an old bike in a junk shop or garage sale and plant the basket up with cascading petunias and small cottage plants.Use a coconut fibre liner to help hold soil and moisture. Sit the bike in the garden, for a touch of quirkiness.

C.I Y project 2- Do you have any old boots laying around?
 Maybe some old Dr. Martins?
Fill them up with a quality potting mix and plant succulents or nasturtiums in them.
The more weathered and aged the boots get, the better they look.

Dried purple flowers

Flower sales on the side of the road in Italy. I'm not entirely sure what these flowers are. I think they are dried sunflowers? Any ideas?

Italian Garden Inspiration

The ivy planted in the Italian planter is a simple idea that looks great.

Little weathered pots in a row make an interesting display.

I love the way they have wrapped the topiary pots in hessian, it compliments the timber door.

I found these aged half wine barrels painted white at an antique fair. I loved them but they wouldn't fit in my suitcase. I will have to paint my own barrels white for my own garden one day and plant some conifer topiaries in them.
