Strolling through the garden...

How lovely it is to see our customers take pride in their gardens. Our customer Helen Rodda  has built her magnificent garden up with large Shade trees, lovely flowering perennials and box hedging.
Helen's garden is called " Camelot Garden Stroll"and is situated at Kadina on South Australia's York Peninsula. Helen's Garden was open to the public in October and attracted over 300 people and helped raise funds for the local cancer council. Well done Helen, what a beautiful garden.

Take a look at the wonderful photos Helen sent into us...

Teak Garden Sculpture Balls from Serenity Nursery where strategically placed in a section of the garden.

Helen said "Everyone fell in love with them".  Comments like “Who made them”,  “Where did you get them from”,  “ I’ve got to have some of them”, to ‘I’ve never seen anything like them before” kept coming all the time.

Serenity Nursery's statue of Rose is enveloped by blooming roses and a metal garden arch.

Small wooden hearts from Serenity Nursery hang from the weeping mulberry tree.

Helen put together this nostalgic little nook. An old washer, washboard and basket
 complete the quirky display.

Time to Grow!

It's National Tree Day

How proud we are to be in an industry that supports the environment. Every tree, plant and shrub  that is planted helps clean the air, create habitats for wildlife, and soften and shade our environment.

Today is Planet Arks National Tree Day. It's a great reminder to plant a tree or two in your back yard. Winter is an ideal time to plant trees especially deciduous trees like pyrus, elms & prunus. These trees are available now in the garden centre. One of the main benefits of a deciduous tree is that they loose there leaves in winter allowing the sun into your house or entertainment area. During the warmer months they re-grow their leaves to shade your house making them an economical investment.

There are so many native trees available too and it doesn't have to be a gum tree there are some speccy native trees these days with vibrant purple foliage such as agonis 'After Dark' or weeping lime green foliage Acacia "Lime Light". What ever tree you choose to plant make sure care is taken when planting it. Soil preparation and adequate water is important to help establish your tree.

A modern statement with Aloe Trees.

This garden is amazing. The architectural trees emerging from the decking are aloe trees and we actually have these available at  the nursery and they also grow well in large pots. Surrounding the over sized concrete slabs are cordylines, agave's and a variety of succulents. In the top picture you can see the blue chalk stick succulent, which is a low growing blue statement plant.

The garden accessories are bang on. Love the stark white swing chair, table and single seat.

This garden works because there is a variety of flooring materials used. Timber and concrete slabs in varying sizes combined with earthy mulch add texture add interest. varying the levels in the garden is a great way to a sense of style to a small space.
Enjoy. Krystal

Winter in the Nursery

Bare-root trees line the entrance to our nursery. Plus there are 100's more inside.
Bare-root Mop Tops the ever popular tree that is covered in a mass of tiny green leaves in
 Spring and summer.

Winter trees in the nursery.

Dad forks the tree bins into our work area to be filled with soil.

Shortly after Toky-lui was taken into the house for a clean up and change of clothes. Spoilt thing!

Incredibly beautiful bare-root weeping mulberry trees are dug into the soil.

Rain, hail or shine we are always outside working in the nursery. Mum balances her Plants Plus umrella, clip board and a cuppa!

Every year is the same, every winter our bare-root trees arrive and we set out to display all of the new stock. We order our trees several months before from several suppliers and today they arrived. Murphy's law had it that it poured with rain while we unpacked the delivery trucks and set up our trees (infact it just rained all day today). Even our dog Toky-liu chipped in to help. It was otherwise a gloomy day in the garden centre, but it was great to see some folk out to pick up vegy and flower seedlings. It's a great time to plant while the ground is moist.
More trees and roses are arriving soon, so we will be back into it again.

Enjoy the rain. Krystal.

The height of Blue and White

A snippet of blue and white lace cap hydrangeas, a dreamy blue gate way and blue gorgeous house that Marian and Rod visited this week.

The blue milk can, cane chairs and bird cages were nostalgic elements found around the house and garden.

Marian Loved the use of this blue glazed pot and said the hydrangeas and fuchsias were stunning.
 Love this look.

People from all over came to visit this pretty place.
Mum and Dads New Zealand adventures continued as they explored another beautiful house and garden. Laden with pretty cottage plants and magnificent established trees this place put a twinge in their heart.

Ornamental Pear Tree

My newly planted Pyrus ussuriensis ( Manchurian Pear)

The Tree 3 years on surrounded by perennials

Pyrus ussuriensis, or Manchurian Pear  are deciduous Trees that form a large shade canope through the warmer months. It is the perfect tree to shade a hot area and will drop its leaves in winter to let much needed light into your house and garden. I have positioned one in my garden in the far right ( pictured here) , it's a lovely specimen.  Manchurian Pears will tolerate a  hot sunny spot and they are available in many forms including the popular upright form "Capital", which are ideal for drive ways and used extensively as Street trees in the Murray Bridge area.

Best Flowering Tree

Pictured: Crepe Myrtle 'Tuscarora'

Crepe Myrtles or Largerstroemia are one of the best flowering trees around. Our Crepe Myrtles are from the Indian Summer range. These quality trees are mildew resistant. The flowers and bark are highly ornamental making them ideal for driveways or single planting.

Seeing Red

It's that time of year when ornamental deciduous trees are at there best. With brilliant autumn colours of scarlet red and orange tones like my Manchurian Pear tree. It is the last time to enjoy your ornamental trees before they shed their leaves.
