Roses with meaning

"Firestar" is an award winning rose. The first rose to represent the CFA.

Firestar Rose- The first in the series.

We fell in love with the first 'Firestar' rose (pictured above) and planted a whole heap on our property in Murray Bridge. It's performs really well and the flowers change colour constantly.

 

"Phoenix" is the second rose in the "Firestar Series"- The official rose of the CFA.

About Phoenix Rose- New 2013

Phoenix Rose is a new release rose for 2013. It follows the first in the series 'Firestar'. Phoenix is a very fragrant shrub rose growing to 140cm. Pink petals meet a yellow orange hue reminiscent of early morning sunrise. Phoenix is a hardy rose that will tolerate Australia's harsh conditions. It is another great symbol  that conveys a sense of solace and quiet beauty, and embodied both a sense of hope and renewal, and the energy of re-generation.

Grow This:

Pierre de Ronsard is one of the worlds favourite roses. This pretty climbing rose was inducted into the Rose Hall of Fame in 2006. It's a wonderful rose to grow over an archway or to cover a not so pretty fence.

Growing Tip: Plant climbing roses in winter when they are dormant and at their hardiest. Prepare the soil with Richgro Rose Marvel. Use a seaweed solution such as Seagold to help establish the roots of the rose and condition the soil.

Designed by Phillip Johnson, this garden reminds us that nature is the perfect reference for sustainable design, imperative in the twenty first century.

The focal points of the landscape are the Billabong, gorge and waterfalls, as well as the Studio perched on the edge of the gorge. The Studio roof includes solar panels with the capacity to generate enough power for the whole landscape.

Olive herb a great alternative to fresh olives.

Olive Herb is a cold hardy perennial with an intense olive aroma. Use in salads and Mediterranean meals especially when you don't have fresh olives on hand.

Stevia is part of our advanced cut and cook range, this means you can plant it now and enjoy the rewards straight away. Stevia is a natural way to sweeten food and drinks without the calories of sugar. It's also great to bake with ( see the Oasis apple muffin recipe below).
This herb will enjoy full sun/ part shade and will grow to about 70cm tall. Great for pots or a spot in the garden.

Interesting ways with cacti & succulents...

Bright lolli pop cacti give this planter bowl wow factor.

 

Plant a variety of cacti in a low dish. Choose brightly coloured grafted cacti like the "lolli pop" type shown here. We have a great mix of cacti & succulents including cacti in pink, yellow, purple and orange in the garden centre for around $6 ea.

Place your display in a well lit room in the house, patio or veranda.

 

I thought this was a great idea to plant succulents in the crevice of each step. The green life really does soften the hard edges and creates an interesting visual display.

Industrial/ Country display at Serenity Nursery

 

Another display I wish I could say that I whipped together, but being 6 months pregnant the merchandising process was a little slower than usual. I made use of the old wagon shed stone walls as an earthy back drop to our new home wares. Cream industrial stools, FOB Clock and lots of inspirational and quirky signs to make you laugh.

Blue, green and all colours inbetween..

 

So a little trip away to Sydney has inspired me to revamp the gift shop.It's all about colour in your home and blue and green is one of my favourite combinations. 

What things do I love in this shot: The shell inlaid timber stools, the shabby chic hanging pendents, the fluro green and electric blue scarf and the mother in laws tongue plant. Indoor plants are big this season...stay tuned.

 

 

Pop in to our shop and you won't miss the brightly coloured owls. Owl cushions, doorstops and plush toys add a whimsical decorative touch to your home.

Freshly Picked:

Autumn is the perfect time to plant lemon trees or any citrus for that matter.

Grow cumquat's in pots for a Mediterranean feel or a lime tree along a fence for an edible screen.

 

It's no secret that I love dogs and while hunting the web I was delighted to stumble

 across these words of advise.

 

 Yellow roses, sunflowers and a lemon as a place card makes a pretty table setting. Use any type of fruit that is in season, your guest can take it home as a healthy snack!

 

 

A yellow feature wall is a dramatic backdrop to this climbing wisteria plant. Use paint in the garden to quickly and cheaply transform a space. Paint the side of an old shed, a fence or an old chair to introduce a new colour to a dull spot.

Plant tulips now and all Spring flowering bulbs. Love the yellow industrial stools? We have them in baby blue and cream @ Serenity Nursery now.

So we have been on trend watch this week with a trip interstate and we have discovered

 a whole lot of colour.

There is no right or wrong colour combo. Be brave and mix things up.
